Kanooru Heggadithi review ↠ eBook or Kindle ePUB Heir education amidst the torpor of manorial life the brothers are forced to witness the descent into cruelty of Chandrayya Gowda who breaks old familial ties and demands an impossible fealty The petty meanness of the Gowda s old age and the idealistic vitality of youth confront each other when Hoovayya and Ramayya both fall in love with Seethe their childhood playmate with disastrous conseuences for the manor house of Kanooru The epic conflicts of a decaying feudal order are seen through a multiplicity. This is my first Kannada book No wonder why they call the author Rashtrakavi I started with less expectation because I am reading a translated version and it might not be the same as the original book But I should say that the translator had done a real good jobMore than the story I enjoyed the way the author explains the landscape He points all the birds insects in the region Unless the author had spend time enjoying his time growing up in such place we wouldn t write such a storyThe way he has named each dog and cow in the story is so amazing He has actually build characters for these animals too Like how the dog tiger was scared initially and how its caretaker trained it to be one of the best hunting dog possible Each such small characters make the story interestingThe book has created a snapshot of life at Malenad during the time I had like the way how he has called out that almost everyone drank toddy including the protagonists mother I am not even sure if he is the protagonist or the house itself is the protagonist of the storyIts to time to find other translated works of the author

Kanooru Heggadithi review ↠ eBook or Kindle ePUB From Kannada's first Jnanpith award winner a landmark of modern fiction that documents a vanishing world When Hoovayya and Ramayya return from their studies in the city to their ancestral home much has changed throwing the even tenor of village life out of joint The entry of Subbamma the young wife of much married Chandrayya Gowda into the House of Kanooru sets in motion an irrevocable chain of events which signify the coming of age of a resolutely traditional society Acutely conscious of the burden of t. Reading The House of Kanooru is like putting words to a Pollock painting It s extremely colourful strewn over a vast canvas There are some patches that are inexplicably beautiful Every chapter unfurls a little of the world of Kanooru a village that is too small to be even shown on a map as Seethe discovers But the village brims with a memorable line up of characters that refuse to leave my mind even after a day There are idealists like Hoovayya unctuous ones like Rangappa Shetty and greedy ones like the Joisa And then there is Subamma Soma and Chandrayya Gowda the ones that arrest your attention with the changes in their personalities In addition the vivid portrayal of village life with its uniue traditions and practices the landscape with its lush forests and hills work their charm on you At the end of it all I felt like I had walked the hills and forests myself and been a part of life in Kanooru of that richly detailed enthralling world So enthralling that my mind is pulled back to that world even as I am reading my next book Ah what a pity that the Rashtrakavi National Poet which is the title given to Kuvempu wrote only 2 novels
